Frenkie de Jong Extends Contract

Frenkie de Jong Extends FC Barcelona Contract Until 2029

FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has officially extended his contract with the club until 2029. The Dutch star signed his new deal on Wednesday at the club’s headquarters, alongside president Joan Laporta.

A Memorable Day

Following Wednesday’s training session, De Jong visited the club offices to finalize his contract. He was joined by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafael Yuste, board member Joan Soler, Football Area director Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”, football coordinator Bojan Krkic, and other members of the Sporting Commission.

Addressing the media after signing, De Jong expressed his excitement:

> “I have always dreamed of playing for Barça. I want this dream to continue for many more years and to extend it as long as possible.”

He also highlighted his comfort within the team and the motivation he draws from the squad’s current good form:

> “I feel very comfortable with everyone and motivated by the good spell the team is going through.”

De Jong praised the work of coach Hansi Flick since his arrival:

> “My relationship with the mister has been good from the very first moment. He has always said he believes in me, and he has shown that. I can still improve in many areas, and I will continue working as always.”

Elegant Midfielder, Proven Talent

De Jong joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax, where he had already established himself as one of Europe’s most promising midfielders. He made 42 appearances in his debut season (2019/20), gradually adapting to La Liga’s demands. Despite multiple coaching changes, he has been a key figure in Barcelona’s midfield ever since.

Although his early time under Hansi Flick was affected by injuries, De Jong quickly became a regular starter once fully fit. In the 2024/25 season, he made 46 appearances for Barça, scoring twice.

At just 28, De Jong is entering the peak of his career. He has already won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Super Cups with Barcelona. He is also second on the list of all-time appearances by Dutch players at Barça, closing in on Phillip Cocu.

Barcelona are confident that De Jong will remain a cornerstone of their sporting project, bringing quality, experience, and leadership to the squad for years to come.
